Where can I get help planning a trip itinerary?

A general travel community and a solo-travel community — both expect you to research first and give specifics.

Both communities help with trip questions, but neither acts as a free travel agent. r/travel covers travel broadly; r/solotravel is specifically for people travelling alone. Both ask for dates, budget and interests, and both remove repetitive or low-effort questions.

Where to ask

r/travel

Best for: Specific trip and itinerary questions after you have done some research.

Why it fits: Its public description: “r/travel is a community about exploring the world. Your pictures, questions, stories, or any good content is welcome.”

Members in our directory: 14.5M

Rules to know before posting:

  • Read the FAQ and search before posting; repetitive questions are removed.
  • Use a descriptive title and be as specific as possible: starting point, dates, budget and interests.
  • Show the research you have already done; check Google or the airline or hotel directly first.
  • Stay around to answer follow-up questions.
  • No clickbait, blogs, vlogs, surveys or other self-promotion.

r/solotravel

Best for: Questions about travelling on your own.

Why it fits: Its public description: “A place for all of those interested in solo travel to share their experiences and stories!”

Members in our directory: 4.6M

Rules to know before posting:

  • Posts must be about solo travel, not just travel in general.
  • Search before posting; repetitive questions are removed.
  • Low-effort “plan my trip” posts are removed — the rules say it is not a free personal travel agent.
  • Meetups, travel-partner searches and accommodation recommendations go in the dedicated weekly threads.
  • No self-promotion, polls, or pure image and link posts.

Before you post

  • Draft a rough route first and ask about specific trade-offs instead of asking for a full plan.
  • Include dates, budget, travel style and where you are starting from.
  • For entry rules and documents, check official government sources; for delays and refunds, see the flight-delay page.
