Where can I ask for a book recommendation?

A large book-suggestion community that wants text posts describing what you have enjoyed — not “should I read…” questions.

If you want people to suggest what to read next, r/suggestmeabook is built for exactly that request. Describe books you liked and why; the more context you give, the more targeted the suggestions tend to be. If you are trying to find a book you read once but cannot name, use the forgotten-title page instead.

Where to ask

r/suggestmeabook

Best for: Getting suggestions for what to read next, based on books you already liked.

Why it fits: Its public description: “Need an idea what to read next? Tell us what you've enjoyed in the past, or what you're looking for, and let the community suggest a book (or books) for you to read!”

Rules to know before posting:

  • Posts must actually ask for book suggestions.
  • Text posts only — include context in the body; link posts and URL shorteners are removed.
  • No “Should I read…” posts about a specific title or author.
  • No self-promotion of your own writing, blog, podcast or channel — the rules say this leads to a permanent ban.
  • No piracy requests or links.
  • Use spoiler tags; posts with untagged spoilers are removed.

Before you post

  • Name two or three books you loved and say what you liked about them (pace, tone, setting).
  • Mention what you did not enjoy, so suggestions skip it.
  • Say whether you want fiction, non-fiction, or a particular length or reading level.
