Where can I ask a Linux troubleshooting question?

A Linux Q&A community for beginner-to-advanced questions — posts should be answerable questions, replies should help, and self-advertising of your own tutorials or projects is banned.

Distro installs, driver issues and command-line problems are a different ask from general Windows PC repair. r/linuxquestions is built for asking Linux questions that have answers. It is not a blog dump for your own tutorials.

Where to ask

r/linuxquestions

Best for: Beginner or advanced Linux questions that expect a concrete answer.

Why it fits: Its public description: “A subreddit for asking question about Linux and all things pertaining to it.”

Rules to know before posting:

  • Posts should ask questions that have answers — any Linux level is welcome; mark Resolved when fixed and share the solution if you found it yourself.
  • Replies should be helpful or informative — avoid low-effort joke answers.
  • No self-advertising of your own articles, websites, videos, blogs or software projects as posts.

Read r/linuxquestions’s current rules on Reddit

Before you post

  • Name the distro and version, desktop environment if relevant, exact error text and what you already tried.
  • General non-Linux PC troubleshooting still fits the computer-problem where-to-post page.
  • Distribution-specific communities can help for quirks unique to that distro — still read that room’s rules first.
