Rules to know before posting:

  • Post descriptions, audio, video or photos of unknown birds only; known species go to other bird communities.
  • Include a reasonably precise geographic location.
  • Tag images of death or gore as NSFW.
  • Leave most baby birds alone — see its stickied guidance.

Before you post

  • Note the size compared with a familiar bird, the colours, and the behaviour.
  • Record calls with your phone — sound IDs are often easier.
  • Add date and habitat (garden, coast, forest).

Rule summaries are paraphrased from each community’s published rules (public archive copy retrieved 7 November 2026; original snapshot date unavailable). Current rules may differ — check the community’s rules before posting. A good fit does not guarantee a reply.
