Where can I ask a visa or immigration question?

Country-focused peer rooms for process questions about visas, filings and citizenship paths — not a substitute for a licensed immigration lawyer.

Visa and immigration questions attract dedicated peer communities. Replies are volunteer discussion, not legal advice, and communities remove requests to break the law. Match the room to the country whose system you are dealing with.

Where to ask

r/USCIS

Best for: US filings, green cards, naturalization and USCIS process questions.

Why it fits: Its public description: “U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) is the government agency that oversees lawful immigration to the United States.” The same page states the community is not affiliated with USCIS and that advice there is not legal advice.

Rules to know before posting:

  • Do not ask for or post advice on how to skirt immigration law.
  • Do not post private information such as USCIS tracking numbers or anything that could identify you.
  • No spam or offers of paid attorney, form or translation services.
  • Check the FAQ and wiki first — questions already covered there may be removed.
  • AI-generated answers (for example ChatGPT) are not allowed.

r/ImmigrationCanada

Best for: Questions about immigrating to Canada (IRCC processes and related issues).

Why it fits: Its public description: “The Canadian Immigration Subreddit. This subreddit is for asking questions or discussing current issues regarding immigrating to Canada.” It also states that comments are not legal advice.

Rules to know before posting:

  • Do not ask how to break the law or advise breaking the law.
  • No advertisements, blogspam or links treated as spam.
  • Do not ask people to continue the discussion in private messages.
  • Posts must relate to Canadian immigration questions or ongoing Canada immigration issues.
  • Prefer official sources (for example Canada.ca) when sharing information; unofficial links are restricted.
