r/pestcontrol
Best for: Practical household pest problems when you can share clear photos and location.
Why it fits: Its public description invites people to ask how to solve pest issues and stresses clear close-up photos of the insect’s back, location, and that videos are a poor ID method.
Rules to know before posting:
- Responders are expected to be qualified — see the room’s pros-vs-nonpros guidance before answering as an expert.
- Misidentifying roaches as German cockroaches “with certainty” when wrong can bring bans.
- No AI bots, company ads or in-person solicitation.
- No squirrel-trapping-in-attic how-to threads — hire appropriate help.
- Joke/clever comments that mock posters can bring instant bans.
- Termites: ID only — no homeowner treatment how-tos.
- No off-label pesticide advice, no boric-acid/DE cheerleading as blanket answers, and no dangerous tips (for example lighting gasoline).
- No bite/wound photos for diagnosis and no sheet-stain photos.
- Dead-rodent pics are removed after the question is handled (or immediately if there is no question).
- No hantavirus scare threads of the “I saw a mouse dropping” variety as framed in the rules.
- Close-ups with scale only; no sound-only videos for mystery noises.
- No insults; keep compassion for anxious posters.
- Limit excess profanity.
- No “just get a cat” as rodent advice.
- Mystery holes in the ground usually need a camera, not guesswork alone.
