Where can I ask a homeowner HVAC or air-conditioning question?

A homeowner-facing HVAC advice community — advertising banned, trade-only r/HVAC is the wrong room for end-user questions, and safety-bypass advice is not tolerated.

Strange furnace noises, weak cooling or thermostat confusion are common homeowner questions. r/hvacadvice is framed for homeowners, renters and similar end-user HVAC questions. The trade community r/HVAC is not the place for out-of-trade end-user posts.

Where to ask

r/hvacadvice

Best for: General questions about a home or small-business HVAC system from an end user’s point of view.

Why it fits: Its public description: “A place for homeowners, renters, tenants, business owners or anyone with a general question about their HVAC system.”

Rules to know before posting:

  • No advertising — product-for-sale links, blog spam and similar ads can lead to removal and a ban.
  • Follow Reddit’s sitewide rules and etiquette.
  • Do not crosspost the same question across r/hvac, r/hvacadvice and r/thermostats — pick one; r/hvac is not open to end-user/out-of-trade questions.
  • Professional techs posting as pros need verification flair; there is zero tolerance for advising anyone to disconnect, bypass or remove safety devices.
  • Check the blacklisted-topics list in the sidebar before posting.
  • Keep politics, name-calling and rude behavior out of this homeowner advice forum.
  • Companies may not use the room for surveys, ads or fishing for leads.

Before you post

  • State whether the system is furnace, heat pump, central AC or mini-split, plus symptoms and any error codes.
  • Peer replies are informal — sealed refrigerant work and gas appliances often require licensed service.
  • Standalone appliance failures (washer, fridge) fit the appliance-repair where-to-post page.
