Where can I identify or learn about an antique?

An antiques discussion community for items generally older than 100 years — with required clear titles, location, marks and multi-angle photos for ID or value asks.

People who inherit or find old objects often want identification, dating help or collector context. r/Antiques focuses on antiques (commonly treated as 100+ years old) and old collecting discussion. Modern thrift finds may belong elsewhere if they are not antique.

Rules to know before posting:

  • Posts and comments must stay relevant to antiques and collecting.
  • Artefacts should be antique (100+ years); newer items may be redirected.
  • Use a clear title that states why you are posting.
  • No modern politics.
  • For ID, dating or value asks: include location, maker’s marks, material if known, and photos from multiple angles including marks.
  • No advertising, abuse, empty comments or knowingly wrong/joke IDs.

Before you post

  • Photograph hallmarks, joints, wear and any labels — value guesses without marks are weak.
  • Furniture that is merely “old-looking” may fit furniture identification if it is not antique-aged.
  • Peer valuations are informal opinions, not appraisals for insurance or tax.
