US-inclusive news desk vs world news without US-internal items

r/news describes itself as the place for news articles about current events in the United States and the rest of the world. r/worldnews is for major news from around the world, excluding US-internal news.

Both are huge Top-cut link communities (news about 31.6M, rank #14; worldnews about 47.7M, rank #4). Activity samples are link-dominated for both, with worldnews busier in our window (roughly 159 vs 81 posts per day).

Short rule titles encode the geo split and shared hard-news norms. worldnews leads with “No US Internal News or Politics,” bans editorials/opinion/analysis, non-English articles, and image/video/audio clips. news requires articles about a specific news event, bans opinion/advocacy pieces and primarily political articles, and insists titles match the article. Post a US-domestic story to news (when it fits); keep worldnews for non-US-internal international coverage.

r/news: US and world hard-news articles; no opinion/advocacy.
r/worldnews: world news excluding US-internal politics/news (collected title).
Both are link-first in our samples. Both have full SubMouse community pages.
