EDM dance-floor room vs broader electronic music
r/EDM presents itself as a source for talking about electronic dance music and discovering new tracks in the scene. r/electronicmusic’s public description is a place to discuss everything electronic-music related—wider than dance-floor EDM alone.
In our directory, EDM is larger (about 3.1M, rank #353) than electronicmusic (about 2.7M, rank #418). Activity samples show EDM posting more often (~54 posts/day vs ~24). Both samples mix video, links, text and images. Our directory lists each name among the other’s related communities.
Rule titles differ on cadence: EDM restricts self-promo and throwbacks to weekends and limits when new music can be posted; electronicmusic enforces Artist – Title formatting, bans unofficial sources when official ones exist, and pushes some posts into weekly discussion.
- Choose r/EDM for dance-oriented electronic music under its weekend and new-music timing rules.
- Choose r/electronicmusic for a wider electronic-music discussion room with strict title formatting.
- Both sit outside the current Top 100 cut; directory related links connect the two.

Where this comparison comes from
Public descriptions and member counts from SubMouse’s safe-for-work directory. Short rule titles and activity samples SubMouse collected. Mutual related-list links. Short titles only.
Members and public descriptions come from SubMouse's safe-for-work directory (as of 2026-11-02 UTC); 7-day growth measured from 2026-10-26. Posts/day and post-type mixes appear when we have an activity sample. Rule lines are short titles, not the full sidebar. Directory rank is listing order — communities outside the current Top 100 open in the info tool instead of a full community page.
