Writing craft talk vs prompt-based creative pieces

r/writing is for discussions about the writing craft. r/WritingPrompts invites writers to flex on a prompt—write a short story or poem from a title prompt and exchange comments.

WritingPrompts is the larger Top-cut room (about 18.9M, rank #44) against writing (about 3.4M, rank #300). Both are essentially all text; WritingPrompts is busier in our window (roughly 54 vs 15 posts per day). Each lists the other as related.

Short rule titles separate workshop talk from prompt play. writing covers posting work, self-promotion, thoughtful posts useful to writers, and civility. WritingPrompts requires good-faith new stories/poems (no AI), tagged submissions, prompt-in-title norms, and keeps the space about writing rather than competing or making money. Talk process and craft in writing; answer a prompt with a fresh piece in WritingPrompts.

  • r/writing: craft discussion; thoughtful posts for writers.
  • r/WritingPrompts: respond to prompts with new stories/poems; no AI responses (collected title).
  • They list each other as related. Both have full SubMouse community pages.
