Fantasy reading room vs worldbuilding craft room

r/Fantasy’s public description is a large discussion forum for speculative fiction — fantasy, science fiction, horror, alt history and more. r/worldbuilding describes a DIY room for creating new worlds and universes across art, writing, games and science.

In our directory, Fantasy is larger (about 4.0M, rank #240) than worldbuilding (about 1.9M, rank #571). Activity samples show worldbuilding posting more often (~95 posts/day vs ~54). Fantasy’s sample is text-forward with review, bingo and book-club flairs; worldbuilding’s sample mixes text with images/galleries and uses lore, question, discussion, visual and map flairs. Our directory lists each name among the other’s related communities.

Rule titles: Fantasy emphasizes kindness, limits promotional/karma farming, spoilers and piracy, and steers writing/publishing discussion; worldbuilding requires worldbuilding context, effort, DIY ethos and careful NSFW handling. SubMouse already compares worldbuilding with writing; this pair is fandom reading versus world creation. Note: a Fantasy-vs-scifi curated page is intentionally not offered here because r/scifi’s public blurb currently trips a safe-directory token filter.

Choose r/Fantasy for speculative-fiction reading and fandom talk under its kindness and anti-promo rules.
Choose r/worldbuilding to invent settings, maps and lore under its context-and-effort rules.
Both sit outside the current Top 100 cut. worldbuilding-vs-writing is a separate curated page.
