How the college communities compare
Membership is concentrated: the three largest communities hold 96% of all members on this list, so most of the college conversation happens in a handful of places. Size and activity don't line up perfectly: r/GetStudying has the most members, but r/ApplyingToCollege gets the most new posts (about 191 a day, against 42 in r/GetStudying). Per member, the liveliest is r/studying: 22 posts a day from 45.3K members — a smaller crowd, but an engaged one. Among the communities we track weekly, r/ApplyingToCollege grew fastest recently (+0.09%, +1.2K members since Oct 26). The oldest is r/college, founded in 2008, and every community here is more than five years old — this is a long-established corner of Reddit.

Choosing where to post
For beginner questions, r/CollegeHomeworkTips is the natural first stop — it exists for advice, and roughly 7.6 new threads a day keep it moving. Asking the same thing in r/GetStudying often gets it removed or lost among the 42 daily posts. Competition for attention differs a lot: r/GetStudying has 3.3M members but only about 42 new posts a day — roughly one new post for every 79.3K members — while r/ApplyingToCollege gets about 191 a day, one for every 7.1K. A strong, well-made post therefore has more room to be seen in r/GetStudying; r/ApplyingToCollege is better when you want quick replies. Rule sets vary: of the communities we have rules for, r/college lists 14, against 6 in r/GetStudying, so a post that is fine in one can be removed in another.
Before posting, sort a subreddit by “Top” for the past month: it shows in a minute what that community rewards. Always read the rules in the sidebar first — each community is run by its own volunteer moderators. Our guide to searching Reddit explains how to dig through any of these communities, and the subreddit info tool gives you the stats of one we don't list.
