Woodworking craft vs general DIY

r/woodworking covers woodworking, carpentry, fine furniture, and hand and power tools—making anything from trees. r/DIY’s collected titles require all content to be DIY and push “Google First, Reddit Last.”

Both have SubMouse pages (woodworking about 6.2M, rank #130; DIY about 27.5M, rank #17). Samples are gallery-led for both (roughly 75 vs 61 posts per day).

Collected titles: woodworking requires posts to be about woodworking and original, routes wood ID to a megathread, and expects creators with shops or YouTube to engage beyond their own posts. DIY bans sales/promotion and product reviews, removes low-effort and off-topic posts, and has a title about letting professionals handle some jobs. Show a finished table or joinery question in woodworking; bring mixed-material home projects and repairs to DIY. (DIY vs HomeImprovement covers home-repair Q&A.)

  • r/woodworking: wood projects and tools; original content; wood ID in the megathread (collected titles).
  • r/DIY: all DIY; no sales/promo or product reviews (collected titles).
  • Both have full SubMouse community pages.

Members and public descriptions come from SubMouse's safe-for-work directory (as of 2026-11-02 UTC); 7-day growth measured from 2026-10-26. Posts/day and post-type mixes appear when we have an activity sample. Rule lines are short titles, not the full sidebar. Directory rank is listing order — communities outside the current Top 100 open in the info tool instead of a full community page.
