Best Gaming Subreddits (October 2026)

Looking for the right gaming community on Reddit? Here is the lay of the land. We checked the communities Reddit returns for “gaming” and “video games”, kept the public, safe-for-work ones with at least 25,000 members that are still posting, and ranked the 15 that remain by size. Together they have 80.1M members.

How the gaming communities compare

A few giants dominate — r/gaming, r/pcmasterrace and r/pcgaming together account for 85% of the combined membership. Size and activity don't line up perfectly: r/gaming has the most members, but r/pcmasterrace gets the most new posts (about 354 a day, against 64 in r/gaming). Per member, the liveliest is r/IndieGaming: 227 posts a day from 377.2K members — a smaller crowd, but an engaged one. Among the communities we track weekly, r/pcgaming grew fastest recently (+0.08%, +3.2K members since Oct 19). The oldest is r/gaming, founded in 2007, and only one community here is younger than five years: r/esGaming (2022).

Choosing where to post

For beginner questions, r/pcmasterrace is the natural first stop — it exists for advice, and roughly 354 new threads a day keep it moving. Competition for attention differs a lot: r/gaming has 47.4M members but only about 64 new posts a day — roughly one new post for every 738.9K members — while r/pcmasterrace gets about 354 a day, one for every 46.3K. A strong, well-made post therefore has more room to be seen in r/gaming; r/pcmasterrace is better when you want quick replies. Jokes and memes have their own home in r/Gamingcirclejerk; the serious communities tend to remove them, so keep the two apart. There are regional communities too — r/IndianGaming and r/esGaming — which are the better choice for local prices, shops, events or rules. Rule sets vary: of the communities we have rules for, r/pcgaming lists 13, against 6 in r/nintendo, so a post that is fine in one can be removed in another.

Big subreddits give a post the widest audience, but they also bury it quickly; the mid-sized communities on this list are usually friendlier for questions and first posts. Always read the rules in the sidebar first — each community is run by its own volunteer moderators. Our guide to searching Reddit explains how to dig through any of these communities, and the subreddit info tool gives you the stats of one we don't list.
