Choosing where to post

If you have a question, start in r/AskNetsec: it is set up for exactly that, and with about 5.7 new posts a day there are plenty of people around to answer. Asking the same thing in r/cybersecurity often gets it removed or lost among the 91 daily posts. Competition for attention differs a lot: r/netsec has 517.2K members but only about 11 new posts a day — roughly one new post for every 46.6K members — while r/cybersecurity gets about 91 a day, one for every 17.1K. A strong, well-made post therefore has more room to be seen in r/netsec; r/cybersecurity is better when you want quick replies.

Before posting, sort a subreddit by “Top” for the past month: it shows in a minute what that community rewards. Always read the rules in the sidebar first — each community is run by its own volunteer moderators. Our guide to searching Reddit explains how to dig through any of these communities, and the subreddit info tool gives you the stats of one we don't list.
