Best Linux Subreddits (November 2026)

Looking for the right linux community on Reddit? Here is the lay of the land. We checked the communities Reddit returns for “linux” and “ubuntu”, kept the public, safe-for-work ones with at least 25,000 members that are still posting, and ranked the 10 that remain by size. Together they have 3.8M members.

How the linux communities compare

The three largest communities hold about 67% of the combined membership, but the rest of the list is far from empty — that is where most of the specialised discussion happens. r/linux and r/linuxquestions are the two busiest, with roughly 50 and 60 new posts a day. Per member, the liveliest is r/linux4noobs: 60 posts a day from 275.7K members — a smaller crowd, but an engaged one. The oldest is r/linux, founded in 2008, and every community here is more than five years old — this is a long-established corner of Reddit.

Before posting, sort a subreddit by “Top” for the past month: it shows in a minute what that community rewards. Always read the rules in the sidebar first — each community is run by its own volunteer moderators.
