Best Houseplants Subreddits (November 2026)

Most houseplants talk on Reddit happens in a few big places, but the smaller communities are where the specialists are. We checked the communities Reddit returns for “houseplants” and “indoor plants”, kept the public, safe-for-work ones with at least 25,000 members that are still posting, and ranked the 16 that remain by size. Together they have 16.7M members.

How the houseplants communities compare

Membership is concentrated: the three largest communities hold 83% of all members on this list, so most of the houseplants conversation happens in a handful of places. r/gardening and r/houseplants are the two busiest, with roughly 112 and 131 new posts a day. Per member, the liveliest is r/carnivorousplants: 12 posts a day from 35.8K members — a smaller crowd, but an engaged one. Among the communities we track weekly, r/houseplants grew fastest recently (+0.06%, +1.8K members since Oct 26). The oldest is r/gardening, founded in 2008, and every community here is more than five years old — this is a long-established corner of Reddit.

Choosing where to post

For beginner questions, r/plantclinic is the natural first stop — it exists for advice, and roughly 65 new threads a day keep it moving. Jokes and memes have their own home in r/houseplantscirclejerk; the serious communities tend to remove them, so keep the two apart. There are regional communities too — r/HouseplantsUK and r/australianplants — which are the better choice for local prices, shops, events or rules. Rule sets vary: of the communities we have rules for, r/houseplants lists 9, against 3 in r/gardening, so a post that is fine in one can be removed in another.

Big subreddits give a post the widest audience, but they also bury it quickly; the mid-sized communities on this list are usually friendlier for questions and first posts. Always read the rules in the sidebar first — each community is run by its own volunteer moderators. Our guide to searching Reddit explains how to dig through any of these communities, and the subreddit info tool gives you the stats of one we don't list.
