Choosing where to post
If you have a question, start in r/GardeningAustralia: it is set up for exactly that, and with about 19 new posts a day there are plenty of people around to answer. Asking the same thing in r/gardening often gets it removed or lost among the 112 daily posts. Competition for attention differs a lot: r/OrganicGardening has 445.3K members but only about 2.3 new posts a day — roughly one new post for every 193.6K members — while r/gardening gets about 112 a day, one for every 81.1K. A strong, well-made post therefore has more room to be seen in r/OrganicGardening; r/gardening is better when you want quick replies. There are regional communities too — r/GardeningUK and r/GardeningAustralia — which are the better choice for local prices, shops, events or rules.
Before posting, sort a subreddit by “Top” for the past month: it shows in a minute what that community rewards. Always read the rules in the sidebar first — each community is run by its own volunteer moderators. Our guide to searching Reddit explains how to dig through any of these communities, and the subreddit info tool gives you the stats of one we don't list.
