Who can schedule
Moderators with Manage Posts & Comments permissions can create, view, edit, and delete scheduled posts. Scheduled and recurring posts are created from the post creation flow and managed from Mod Tools → Overview → Scheduled posts.
This guide is for community scheduling. Profile scheduling for Reddit Pro accounts is a separate Help topic and is not covered here.
Create a scheduled or recurring post
- Click Create Post on reddit.com in a community you moderate.
- Choose a supported post type — Help states scheduled posts for image and video are currently unavailable.
- Enter title, body, and any required flair.
- Click the clock icon next to Post.
- Set the submit date and time.
- Pick Does not repeat for a one-off, or a repeat pattern for a recurring post.
- Set advanced options if needed, click Save, then Schedule.
Repeat options
- Hourly — every hour from the submit time.
- Daily — every day at that time.
- Weekly on that weekday.
- Monthly on that calendar day.
- Custom — every X hours/days/weeks (with chosen weekdays) or monthly patterns.
Help warns that monthly posts set for the 29th–31st will not fire in shorter months. Prefer earlier day-of-month numbers for “first of month” style threads, or use a weekly pattern instead.
Pins, contest mode, AutoModerator
- Comment sort for when the post goes live.
- Highlight/pin slot: none, first, or second — scheduled highlights can replace an existing highlighted post.
- Post as AutoModerator — Help states u/AutoModerator is auto-added as a mod with Manage Posts & Comments and Manage Flair when you schedule posts to be posted by AutoModerator; those posts cannot be edited once posted.
- Contest mode — randomizes comment order and hides vote scores for contest-style threads.
View, edit, post now, delete
In Mod Tools → Overview → Scheduled posts you can:
- Post now — fires immediately and will not also fire at the old scheduled time (one-off scheduled posts only, not recurring).
- Edit — change title, body, and time before submission; recurring posts use the pencil control for schedule details.
- Delete — remove a scheduled or recurring entry.
- Overflow actions — add to highlights (up to six), show mod label, add NSFW or spoiler tags.
Mods can edit or delete scheduled posts created by other mods on the team.
Dynamic dates in titles
Help documents a {{date}} placeholder with Python strftime formatting in scheduled titles. Example pattern from Help: Daily Scheduled Post - {{date %B %d, %Y}} becomes a concrete calendar date when the post publishes. The placeholder only works for scheduled posts.
Platform limits to remember
- Full scheduling UI is on reddit.com; the official apps can view scheduled posts but are not the full editor.
- Image and video scheduled posts are unavailable per current Help.
- AutoModerator-authored scheduled posts are not editable after they publish.
Before you hit Schedule
- Is this a text/link post (not image/video)?
- Does a human still need to watch the thread when it lands (especially welcome or Q&A threads)?
- If pinning, which existing highlight will it replace?
- If posting as AutoModerator, is the team OK with a non-editable live post?
- For monthly recurrence, is the day-of-month safe in short months?
Hypothetical: a weekly “Newbie questions” thread every Monday at 15:00 UTC, titled Newbie questions — {{date %B %d}}, pinned as first highlight for six hours via your usual unstick routine — not an hourly blast.
