Edit or delete your Reddit posts and comments

Fix body text after posting, understand the edit asterisk, and remove posts you no longer want public.

Edit a post or comment

Reddit Help states you can edit text posts and comments. On reddit.com and in the iOS/Android apps: open the overflow menu on your post or comment, choose Edit Post or Edit Comment, make changes, and save.

Edited items show an asterisk so others can see the text changed. If a long thread already quoted you, a short “Edit: …” note in the body reduces confusion — that habit comes from Reddiquette, not a hard platform requirement.

What you cannot edit

You can edit a post’s body content, not its title. If the title is wrong, your practical options are usually a clarifying comment, a new post that follows the community’s rules, or deleting and reposting only when the community allows it.

Link posts and some media posts may not expose a body editor the way text posts do — if Edit is missing, you are likely looking at a type that only supports title-time fields.

Delete a post on web

  1. Click your profile photo → View Profile → Posts.
  2. On the post, open the overflow menu → Delete.

  1. Open your username → submitted tab.
  2. Under the post, click delete.

Delete a post in the apps

  1. Open your avatar → profile → Posts.
  2. On the post, tap overflow → Delete post.

Many posts at once

Help warns that third-party mass-delete tools are unofficial and may not work as intended. For large deletions you cannot finish in the UI, Reddit documents emailing redditdatarequests@reddit.com from your verified account email or using their data-request form.

Before you delete

  • Is a body edit enough (typo, missing link) without losing the thread?
  • Would deleting break useful answers other people already wrote?
  • Am I trying to undo a mod removal? → That is mod mail / appeal, not Delete on a post you cannot see.
  • Do I need bulk removal across years? → Prefer Reddit’s documented data-request path over unknown scripts.

Hypothetical: you posted a job hunt update with the wrong company name in the body. Edit the body and add “Edit: corrected company name.” If the title itself doxes a detail you must remove, delete and — only if rules allow — repost with a safer title.
