Share a post into another community with a live preview of the original — without copy-pasting blindly.

What a repost is
Reposting — formerly called crossposting — shares an existing Reddit post into another community. The new post embeds a preview of the original, including the original username, source community, and score, so readers can reach the source while discussing it in the new room.
Reddit Help’s best-practice line is simple: only repost content that is relevant to the destination. Random spreads across unrelated communities can look like spam and reflect poorly on you and the source community.
Who can receive a repost
Not every community accepts reposted content. If a community disallows it, that option is greyed out in the community picker. That is a destination setting, not a bug in your account.
Greyed-out destination = that community blocks reposts. Pick another room or ask the mods whether a native post (not a repost) is welcome — and read their rules first.
Repost on reddit.com
- Open the original post.
- Click Repost under the post.
- Choose the target community in Select a community.
- Edit the title if needed, add flair if the destination requires it, then click Post.
Repost on iOS and Android
- Open the original post.
- Tap the Repost control under the post.
- On iOS, pick the community from the list or search; on Android, choose community or profile in the Post to menu.
- Edit the title or add flair if needed, then tap Post.
Share a comment as a post
You can share a comment into a community as its own post where the destination allows it. On web or apps: open the comment’s overflow menu, choose Share as post, pick a community, optionally edit the title/body, then Post.
Moderator Help for bringing content into a community notes that sharing comments as posts needs links enabled in that community’s Post & Comments settings — if Share as post is missing, the destination may have links limited.
Relevance checklist
- Would this community’s regulars care about this specific post — or am I farming exposure?
- Does the destination allow reposts (not greyed out)?
- Have I read the destination rules for title format, flair, and spoilers?
- Should the title be rewritten so it makes sense without the source context?
- If I moderate a community and I am reposting outward for growth, am I still staying relevant and non-spammy?
Hypothetical: a detailed trail report fits both a regional hiking room and a gear room. Repost once into the second room with a title that names the gear angle, rather than blasting five loosely related communities.
