Best Memes Subreddits (October 2026)

Most memes talk on Reddit happens in a few big places, but the smaller communities are where the specialists are. We checked the communities Reddit returns for “memes” and “meme”, kept the public, safe-for-work ones with at least 25,000 members that are still posting, and ranked the 9 that remain by size. Together they have 73.7M members.

How the memes communities compare

Membership is concentrated: the three largest communities hold 73% of all members on this list, so most of the memes conversation happens in a handful of places. r/memes is both the biggest and the busiest, with about 196 new posts a day. Per member, the liveliest is r/meme: 75 posts a day from 3M members — a smaller crowd, but an engaged one. Among the communities we track weekly, r/meme grew fastest recently (+0.10%, +3K members since Oct 19). The oldest is r/memes, founded in 2008, and every community here is more than five years old — this is a long-established corner of Reddit.

Choosing where to post

Competition for attention differs a lot: r/BikiniBottomTwitter has 4.8M members but only about 8.4 new posts a day — roughly one new post for every 569.1K members — while r/memes gets about 196 a day, one for every 183.9K. A strong, well-made post therefore has more room to be seen in r/BikiniBottomTwitter; r/memes is better when you want quick replies. Rule sets vary: of the communities we have rules for, r/PrequelMemes lists 14, against 6 in r/memes, so a post that is fine in one can be removed in another.

A simple rule of thumb: ask questions in the specialised communities and share your best finds in the big ones, where they can reach the most people. Always read the rules in the sidebar first — each community is run by its own volunteer moderators. Our guide to searching Reddit explains how to dig through any of these communities, and the subreddit info tool gives you the stats of one we don't list.
