PC enthusiast feed vs dedicated build-planning advice

r/pcmasterrace welcomes broad PC content—builds, support and enthusiast culture. r/buildapc is narrower: planning and advising custom PC assembly.

Both sit inside our live Top cut (pcmasterrace ~16.4M rank #56; buildapc ~8.5M rank #89). Activity samples are high for both (~352 vs ~203 posts/day). pcmasterrace’s related list includes pcgaming and hardware; buildapc’s related edges in our snapshot are noisier and less PC-specific.

Rules show the workflow split: buildapc bans build-spoonfeeding, laptop/prebuilt questions, hardware news/rumors, sales posts and dream-build memes. pcmasterrace focuses on etiquette, anonymizing screenshots, no affiliate links and limits on peasantry/low-effort posts—but remains a general PC room.

  • Use r/buildapc when you have a budget/parts list and want assembly advice (not a laptop shopping thread).
  • Use r/pcmasterrace for broader PC gaming/tech culture, showcases and general discussion.
  • Both have full SubMouse /r/ pages in the current Top 100.

Where this comparison comes from

Safe-for-work directory stats and collected short rule titles/activity samples for both communities. Short titles only — not full sidebar text.

Members and public descriptions come from SubMouse's safe-for-work directory (as of 2026-11-02 UTC); 7-day growth measured from 2026-10-26. Posts/day and post-type mixes appear when we have an activity sample. Rule lines are short titles, not the full sidebar. Directory rank is listing order — communities outside the current Top 100 open in the info tool instead of a full community page.
