How the basketball communities compare
The three largest communities hold about 70% of the combined membership, but the rest of the list is far from empty — that is where most of the specialised discussion happens. r/nba and r/NBATalk are the two busiest, with roughly 208 and 265 new posts a day. Among the communities we track weekly, r/lakers grew fastest recently (+0.09%, +1.5K members since Oct 19). The oldest is r/nba, founded in 2008, and only one community here is younger than five years: r/NBATalk (2021).

Choosing where to post
Questions do best in r/BasketballTips, the community on this list that is built around advice and help (around 12 posts a day). Asking the same thing in r/nba often gets it removed or lost among the 208 daily posts. Competition for attention differs a lot: r/nbadiscussion has 1.2M members but only about 5.3 new posts a day — roughly one new post for every 234.7K members — while r/NBATalk gets about 265 a day, one for every 401. A strong, well-made post therefore has more room to be seen in r/nbadiscussion; r/NBATalk is better when you want quick replies. Jokes and memes have their own home in r/Nbamemes; the serious communities tend to remove them, so keep the two apart.
Big subreddits give a post the widest audience, but they also bury it quickly; the mid-sized communities on this list are usually friendlier for questions and first posts. Always read the rules in the sidebar first — each community is run by its own volunteer moderators. Our guide to searching Reddit explains how to dig through any of these communities, and the subreddit info tool gives you the stats of one we don't list.
