How the fitness communities compare
A few giants dominate — r/Fitness, r/bodyweightfitness and r/xxfitness together account for 75% of the combined membership. Size and activity don't line up perfectly: r/Fitness has the most members, but r/workout gets the most new posts (about 111 a day, against 27 in r/Fitness). Per member, the liveliest is r/Fitness_India: 84 posts a day from 55.9K members — a smaller crowd, but an engaged one. Among the communities we track weekly, r/GYM grew fastest recently (+0.34%, +4.2K members since Oct 19). The oldest is r/Fitness, founded in 2008, and only one community here is younger than five years: r/Fitness_India (2023).

Choosing where to post
If you have a question, start in r/beginnerfitness: it is set up for exactly that, and with about 45 new posts a day there are plenty of people around to answer. Competition for attention differs a lot: r/Fitness has 12.6M members but only about 27 new posts a day — roughly one new post for every 466.5K members — while r/workout gets about 111 a day, one for every 3.4K. A strong, well-made post therefore has more room to be seen in r/Fitness; r/workout is better when you want quick replies. Rule sets vary: of the communities we have rules for, r/xxfitness lists 10, against 2 in r/Fitness, so a post that is fine in one can be removed in another.
Before posting, sort a subreddit by “Top” for the past month: it shows in a minute what that community rewards. Always read the rules in the sidebar first — each community is run by its own volunteer moderators. Our guide to searching Reddit explains how to dig through any of these communities, and the subreddit info tool gives you the stats of one we don't list.
