How the coffee communities compare
Membership is concentrated: the three largest communities hold 87% of all members on this list, so most of the coffee conversation happens in a handful of places. Size and activity don't line up perfectly: r/Coffee has the most members, but r/espresso gets the most new posts (about 103 a day, against 30 in r/Coffee). Per member, the liveliest is r/pourover: 35 posts a day from 76.1K members — a smaller crowd, but an engaged one. The oldest is r/Coffee, founded in 2008, and only one community here is younger than five years: r/CoffeePH (2022).

Choosing where to post
If you have a question, start in r/pourover: it is set up for exactly that, and with about 35 new posts a day there are plenty of people around to answer. Competition for attention differs a lot: r/Coffee has 2.5M members but only about 30 new posts a day — roughly one new post for every 82.2K members — while r/espresso gets about 103 a day, one for every 6.3K. A strong, well-made post therefore has more room to be seen in r/Coffee; r/espresso is better when you want quick replies.
Before posting, sort a subreddit by “Top” for the past month: it shows in a minute what that community rewards. Always read the rules in the sidebar first — each community is run by its own volunteer moderators. Our guide to searching Reddit explains how to dig through any of these communities, and the subreddit info tool gives you the stats of one we don't list.
