Alternatives to r/gardening

A short, curated guide — not an automatic related dump. Figures come from SubMouse's safe-for-work directory when we have them.

r/gardening (about 9.0M members, directory rank #85) is a broad plant-and-care community. Indoor-only care, plant identification, homestead systems, vegetable plots, sick-plant triage and landscaping each have clearer rooms.

SubMouse's algorithmic related list for gardening also surfaces unrelated names (for example nursing or Sephora) from weak text overlap. Those are not alternatives. This guide keeps seven plant-purpose communities: four corroborated by directory related plus ranking (houseplants, IndoorGarden, whatsthisplant, homestead) and three verified SFW specialty rooms (VegetableGardening, plantclinic, landscaping).

How to choose

Stay on gardening for outdoor plots and general plant talk. Use houseplants or IndoorGarden for indoors, whatsthisplant for IDs, homestead for self-sufficiency systems, VegetableGardening for food crops, plantclinic for diagnosis, and landscaping for yards and hardscape.
