About r/cars
In its own words:
r/Cars is the largest automotive enthusiast community on the Internet. We're Reddit's central hub for vehicle-related discussion, industry news, reviews, projects, DIY guides, advice, stories, and more.
Community guide
r/cars is Reddit’s large generalist automotive hub: discussion, industry news, reviews, DIY, and ownership talk rather than a meme or crash-clip channel. SubMouse rank #106 (about 7.4 million subscribers). The rules we collected push the culture toward links and text—direct image/video posts are disallowed—so the front page reads more like a forum index than an Instagram grid.
What thrives here
Vehicle discussion, news, projects, and advice framed for enthusiasts. Purchase-decision spam, ads, polls, and political threads are restricted under the rule set we have on file.
Versus clip and fail subs
Directory neighbours include IdiotsInCars and Shitty_Car_Mods—entertainment and ridicule formats. r/cars is trying to stay an enthusiast discussion hub; MechanicAdvice is closer when you need diagnostic help. If you only have a dashcam fail clip, those specialised humour subs are the honest destination.
Practical pointers
Prefer text or link posts over raw media uploads. Avoid purchase-advice megaposts if rules still ban them. Civility and no-doxxing rules are explicit. Activity samples skew text and links, with relatively modest daily volume versus meme subs of similar size.
